The Waywayseecappo Wolverines will be wearing pink jerseys against the Winnipeg Blues tonight as the team host its Hockey Fights Cancer Game.
The jerseys will be auctioned after the game with the proceeds being donated to the Expanding Community Cancer Care (ECCC) in Russell.
This will be the second year that the team has done a game night that ends with an auction of their jerseys with proceeds going to the ECCC. Last year the game was dedicated to Addison Mitchell, who passed away at the age of nine years old in September of 2023 after a long fight with cancer.
The game between the Wolverines and Blues will be a big one for Waywayseecappo, as they are still two points back of Virden for the final playoff spot in the West Division, but have now played two more games than the Oil Capitals. Virden will be playing Swan Valley tonight as well.
The Wolverines lost their last game against Neepawa, 7-2, after scoring the first goal of the game, they gave up seven unanswered.
The Blues meanwhile are coming off a win against their Winnipeg counterparts, the Freeze, 4-3. But before that game, they lost three in a row, just scoring two goals and giving up 15.
The last time these two played was in Winnipeg, when the Wolverines won 3-2 in overtime when Sebastien Hicks batted in the game winning goal.
The two will play two more times before the end of the season, one each at home.
