PREVIEW: Wolverines start year at home against Nighthawks

The 2024-25 Regular Season is finally here for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

After having to wait all weekend while every other team started their year, the Wolverines will host the Niverville Nighthawks at 6:00pm to get the first game out of the way.

The Nighthawks (1-0-0-0)  started their season on Friday night, hosting the Winnipeg Freeze. They won 4-1, after three goals in the second period to start their year on a winning foot.

For the Wolverines, it will be a big change for the team that has had stability for the past six seasons.

Taylor Harnett is gone, and in comes former Assistant Coach Landyn Cochrane who is now the new leader behind the bench.

The Wolverines have nine returning guys from last season, and have brought in others from around the country and south of the border.

It will be a younger team as well, with only five 20-year-olds. There will be two players born in 2008, as Cole Hunter and Adam Chipelski are expected to be in the opening night roster, just three months after being drafted by the Wolverines.

The Wolverines will also have a nice start to the year, getting three home games out of the way, and their only road trip going to Virden on Tuesday in the month of September.

This is the first of four meetings between the Wolverines and Nighthawks this season, and it won’t be until the final two games in December that the two will play again.

Only five teams so far are undefeated after the first two days of the season, and the Wolverines are hoping to join that group with a win to start the season.
