PREVIEW: Wolverines start 2025 in Swan River

After two weeks off, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines are back on the ice as they travel to Swan River to take on their West Division rivals, the Swan Valley Stampeders.

The Wolverines will be coming into the month of January, sitting fourth in the West Division with 24 points, just edging out the Virden Oil Capitals because of having played one less game.

Starting in November, the Wolverines played 19 straight games against teams that were in a playoff spot. They finished that stretch with a 6-11-2, for 14 points.

Meanwhile the Stampeders are last in the West with 16 points on the year, and after a terrible start which ended with their coach being let go, they finished 2024 with winning 3 of their last 5 games, able to win against some Winnipeg teams and Virden at the end.

This will be the first time the two teams have played since October 4th, when Jase Wareham stopped 46 shots to help the Wolverines to a 5-0 win. The two will be well acquainted over the next two weeks though, as they will play on Saturday in Waywayseecappo, and then on January 11th in Waywayseecappo once again. They will then play back to back in February.

The Wolverines will be without their top scorer, Jaxon Grosdidier, after being suspended for one game after a check from behind in the last game against Niverville.
