PREVIEW: Wolverines-Oil Capitals face off with playoff implications

There are two games circled on the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and Virden Oil Capitals schedules this month, and its on February 11th and February 25th at the Waywayseecappo Arena. The first game goes tonight as the Wolverines welcome the Oil Capitals.

The two teams are tied in their season series at two games apiece, but the Oil Caps lead the Wolverines in the standings, up by three points in the West Division playoff race.

The games could have four point swings, as a Wolverines win will have the two teams separated by one point. A Virden win, will have the Oil Caps five points clear with still one game in hand the rest of the way. If the game is decided in regulation, the winner will get at least a tie in the season series which could mean a lot if the two teams end up tied at the end of the year.

The Wolverines are coming off a win on Friday against the Winnipeg Blues, winning 3-1.

For Virden, since losing to the Wolverines on January 21st, they have picked up points in six straight games, with four of those games wins.

The game may feature a goaltending battle as the Oil Caps have turned a new leaf since picking up Loic Morin, who has a 6-2 record and a .937 save percentage. On the other side is Mariko Bercier who has been on fire as of late, and has .930 save percentage, good for second in the league for qualified goalies.

The two teams will meet one last time on the 25th, again in Waywayseecappo.
