PREVIEW: Wolverines look to make it two in a row against Flyers

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are looking to make it a sweep of the weekend as they travel to Winkler to take on the MJHL’s best team, the Winkler Flyers.

The Flyers sit first in the league and the East Division, with 72 points on the year, with a 34-7-4 record. After a stretch of 26 games with a point, they lost to the Dauphin Kings 2-1 on Sunday. They started a new streak two days later, beating the Winnipeg Freeze 7-4, but had to come back from a few multi-goal deficits.

The Wolverines are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over the Winnipeg Blues on Friday. Sebastien Hicks scored his second OT winner of the season.

With the win, the Wolverines are within three points of Virden for the final playoff spot in the West, but have now played two more games than the Oil Capitals. Virden will be playing tonight as well, against the Neepawa Titans.

The two teams have faced off twice this season, with the first one going to overtime, where Winkler won 2-1. The second game in January ended up being a 7-4 win for the Flyers.

The Flyers have the league’s best powerplay and penalty kill with a 26.5% success rate with the man advantage and 84.9% rate killing penalties.

The two will play one more time this year, in March, in Winkler.
