After an impressive win over the Portage Terriers on Sunday night, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines look for their second straight win for the first time this season, as they head to Swan River to take on the Swan Valley Stampeders.
This will be the team’s third game in five days in which they have gone 1-1, losing to the Selkirk Steelers 5-2, before turning around two days later to beat the Terriers 5-1.
Even though the Wolverines has had 7 wins this year, they have yet to string two wins together through the first 15 games of the season. They sit third in the West Division, just one point back of the Virden Oil Capitals, and three back of the Dauphin Kings. But they have played two more games than the Oil Capitals and three more than the Kings.
The Wolverines and Stampeders played one week ago, with the Wolverines winning convincingly 9-1. Before that game, the two teams were only separated by three points for the third spot in the West, now it is a more distant 7 points.
For the Stampeders, they entered the game against the Wolverines last week on a three game winning streak, but they dropped two games to the Winkler Flyers over the weekend, losing 2-1 and then 6-3.
To watch will be when the Wolverines are on the powerplay. The #1 powerplay in the league will go up against the second worst penalty kill, as the Stamps have a 66.7% success rate. The last time the teams met, the Wolverines went 2/5 on the night.
