PREVIEW: Wolverines look to build off great week against Flyers

Third times the charm?

That’s what the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and the Winkler Flyers will be thinking ahead of Tuesday’s game, as the last two times the two were supposed to meet, the games were postponed to a later date.

Assuming the game will be good to go, the Flyers and Wolverines will meet after interesting weekends for them both.

The Wolverines are coming off their highest peak of the season, after beating the top teams of the West Division, the Dauphin Kings 4-2 and the Northern Manitoba Blizzard 5-1. It barely got them closer to the final playoff spot in the West, but it showed that the team has the ability to beat the top teams in the league.

For Winkler, they were able to beat their arch-rival, the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday, winning 3-1. But the night before, they gave up a late 3-1 lead over the Swan Valley Stampeders, losing 4-3 in overtime.

Winkler is still third in the East Division, a point back of Portage, and three back of Steinbach. They are also tied with Selkirk and two points ahead of Niverville.

One interesting matchup for tonight’s game will be special teams, as the Wolverines very good penalty kill will get its biggest test, the Winkler Flyers powerplay which is clicking at 36.4%, almost a 10 point lead over the number 2 team in the league.

The two teams will play three more times after this game, all in 2025.
