The Waywayseecappo Wolverines and the Niverville Nighthawks will meet for the second time in three nights, to both wrap up the unofficial first half of the season, heading into the Christmas Break.
The Wolverines are coming off their first overtime win of the season, beating the Nighthawks 4-3 after a Dru Mushumanski goal halfway through the extra frame, on the powerplay.
Special teams were a big reason for the Wolverines win, going 3/5 on the man advantage, against a Niverville team that was top in the league for killing off penalties before the game. Meanwhile the penalty kill was a perfect 5/5 killing off the Nighthawks powerplays.
After the win, the Wolverines moved into sole possession of fourth place in the West Division. They are now back in a tie after a Virden Oil Capitals win last night against Swan Valley. Both the Wolverines and Oil Capitals end their first half on Friday night, and the only way to make sure the Wolverines are still in a playoff spot ahead of the break is for a win against the Nighthawks.
For the Nighthawks, they still sit in fourth of the East Division, one point up on the Selkirk Steelers.
Starting early will be big for both teams, as they both have outstanding records when having a lead after the first and second period. The Nighthawks are 12-1 when having a lead after the first period, and 17-1 after the second period. The Wolverines are a perfect 7-0 after the first when having a lead and 10-0 after the second period.
The next time the two will play again will be February 2nd in Niverville
