Winners in five of their last six games, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines will play their most important game of the season to date on Sunday night when the Winkler Flyers pay a visit to the Waywayseecappo Arena Complex.
Following back to back wins over OCN and back to back Winkler losses, the Wolverines now sit just two points back of the Flyers with two games in hand.
The Run Down
The Wolverines have certainly gotten the better of the Flyers to this point in the season, going 3-0-0-1 in their first four which included a pair of 4-1 victories and two 3-2 contests that needed extra time.
While the Wolverines have won five of their past six, the Flyers have gone 4-6-0-0 and are coming off a pair of road losses to Dauphin and Swan Valley. Winkler enters Sunday nights action on the back end of a three-game in three-night northern road swing.
After Sunday’s game, the two clubs will meet in Winkler on Tuesday night in the season series finale which will certainly have a big impact on the MJHL playoff picture.
Keys to the Game
With the Flyers coming off a busy road trip, it will be key for the Wolverines to jump on the gas early and push the pace for 60-minutes.
While it’s not always a guarantee that the visiting team could be fatigued from playing on back to back nights, the Wolverines cannot take the Flyers lightly and sit back.
Isaac LaBelle will make his ninth straight start for the Wolverines on Sunday night and it can be expected that the 20-year-old from Saskatoon will be dialed in when the puck drops at 6:00.
News and Notes
The Wolverines lineup is almost back to 100% as Jackson Tonnies is expected to be a game-time decision as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury.
Dylan Soosay has now scored the game-winning goal in back to back games and has certainly stepped up his play in the last ten.
