Pistons beat Wolverines late

In what was a back and forth game, the Steinbach Pistons beat the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 3-2 after a late game winning goal.

Travis Hensrud scored with 2:06 left in the game to put the Pistons up 3-2, and hold on to the lead to salvage their MJHL Showcase schedule and win a game.

The Wolverines will be heading back home winless in their two games during the Showcase.

Both teams scored a goal in the first two periods, with the the Wolverines starting the scoring from Mi-Kwan Tallman early on.

It was responded by Cooper Rice later on in the period to tie it up.

In the second, it took till the last few minutes to get some scoring as Spencer Paplawski got one past the Pistons goaltender. But just under a minute later it was Jack Rogers that got one past Tresor Wotton.

Hensrud got the only goal in the third period.

Wotton stopped 23 shots in the loss, while the Pistons’ Will Hambley stopped 30 shots in the win.

For the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, the showcase was just the start of their East Division schedule, as they head to Winnipeg to take on the Freeze on Friday night at 8:00pm.
