Training camp for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines is now less than two weeks away with the clubs first ice time taking place on Friday, August 30.
For trade acquisition Thomson Phinney, he will make the almost four thousand kilometer trek west to a part of Canada he has yet to experience, and it’s something he is certainly looking forward to.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing a part of Canada I’ve never seen before,” Phinney shared about coming from Halifax to Waywayseecappo. “I’m excited to see the area and experience the atmosphere, I’m pretty excited to meet the guys.”
Heading into this summer, the newest Wolverines goaltender set some goals for himself. He also had the opportunity to step on the ice with arguably the best hockey player in the world.
“This offseason I wanted to work on my skating and get a lot quicker in the net. I’m getting pucks quicker and I’m faster so I would say that I achieved that goal.
“One day they needed a guy and I stepped up to the plate. Crosby and Mckinnon were there along with a bunch of other high-end professionals. It was insane, Crosby works so hard, he’s the hardest working guy on the ice every time.”
While the 19-year-old goaltender set goals in which he achieved during the offseason, the Halifax native also has a couple of goals in mind as he enters a new season with a new team in a new league.
“I want to help the team win every night, I want to give the guys a chance to win. I would like to solidify myself as a great number one goalie in the MJHL,” he concluded.
Fans will get their first glimpse of Thomson Phinney when camp opens on Friday, August 30 at the Waywayseecappo Arena Complex.
