Conrad Phillips scored 2:37 into the extra frame while Kris Bladen scored twice to help lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 4-3 victory over the Dauphin Kings on Tuesday night.
It was the Dauphin Kings who would open the scoring in period number one. Grady Hobbs sped past the Wolverines defender and beat Thomson Phinney on a breakaway to give the Kings a 1-0 lead.
After heading into the first intermission down by one, the Wolverines would stay patient and pour on some pressure in the second period.
It took until the final 26 seconds of the second but Kris Bladen would tie the game at 1-1 with his fourth goal in as many games. Conrad Phillips made a nice play to pick up an assist while Rayman Bassi would also notch a helper.
The Wolverines would carry that momentum into the third period and get off to a quick start with a pair of goals.
Ryley Cardinal was in the right spot at the right time when a rebound came to his stick off the end wall. Cardinal made no mistake a put the puck in the net to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead. Jackson Oleson would pick up the lone assist.
Five minutes later, Kris Bladen would score his second of the night to give the Wolverines a 3-1 lead with his fifth goal in his first four games with the Wolverines. Once more, Conrad Phillips and Rayman Bassi would pick up the assists.
The Dauphin Kings wouldn’t go down easy. In a span of 38 seconds, Grady Hobbs and Avery Smith would score to knot the game up at 3-3.
Both the Kings and Wolverines would get late chances on powerplay opportunities, the two clubs would need extra time.
2:37 into the overtime period, Conrad Phillips put home a rebound past a sprawling Matthias Smith to lead the Wolverines to a 4-3 victory over the Kings.
Thomson Phinney stopped 31 of 34 shots for his league-leading 10th win of the season. On top of scoring the overtime winner, Conrad Phillips notched a pair of assists that gives the 19-year-old 19 points in as many games to lead the team in scoring.
