The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are finally heading to the second round, the first time in their 27-year history, after sweeping the Dauphin Kings by winning Game 4 by a score of 3-1.
Jase Wareham stopped 38 saves in the win, and solidified himself as the series MVP, by putting up a .951 save percentage over the course of ffour games, only allowing 7 goals.
Noah Oughton and Dylan Duzan scored the 5-on-5 goals for the Wolverines over the course of the game, while Cole Hunter added an empty net goal 1:16 left into the game to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. Dauphin did score late to break the shutout, as Rylan Gage scored with 41 seconds left.
The Wolverines were led offensively by Sebastien Hicks (4 goals, 1 assist) and Ben Roulette (5 assists) throughout the series, and got help throughout the lineup as only six players went scoreless during the four games.
The crowd of 850 were on their feet for the final minutes of the game, watching their team win a first round series for the first time. Brooms were tossed from the crowd during the empty net goal and after the game signalling a sweep over their biggest rivals, Dauphin.
The Wolverines will probably have to wait a week to next play, but they may know their opponent as soon as Friday night, as there is a good chance of them playing the Niverville Nighthawks. After Neepawa’s loss to Virden, the Wolverines will be the last ranked team in the second round, which means they will play the top ranked team remaining. That means it’ll either be against Niverville, Steinbach or Virden. Niverville is up 3-0 in their series against Winkler, and Steinbach is up 2-1 on Portage.
