Waywayseecappo Wolverines forward Cole Hunter has committed to playing NCAA Division 1 Hockey with the Northern Michigan Wildcats.
Hunter, from Oakburn, MB, played his rookie year with the Wolverines last year, putting up 28 points (9 goals, 19 assists) in 53 games, He also led the team in playoff scoring with 2 goals and 2 assists in five games.
The 16-year-old was drafted by the Wolverines fourth overall in the first round of the 2024 MJHL Draft.
“Northern Michigan has an excellent coaching staff and the facilities are top notch,” says Hunter. “I’m truly excited for the opportunity and very thankful to all my teams, teammates, coaches, family and especially my parents for all the sacrifices and help along the way.”

To see the progress Cole had at 16, I’m beyond excited to see what the future seasons hold for him,” says Wolverines Head Coach/General Manger Landyn Cochrane. “He is a 200ft player with tremendous poise and isn’t afraid to go to the dirty areas of the ice.”
The Northern Michigan Wildcats are based out of Marquette, Michigan and play out of the Barry Events Center. The team plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Conference. In the team’s history, they have won one national title and made three Frozen Four Appearances.
