Former Wolverine Karstin McDonald Committs to Portage College

Another member of the 2018-19 Waywayseecappo Wolverines roster will continue his hockey career this coming fall.

Veteran defenceman, Karstin McDonald has committed to play for the Portage College Voyageurs in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. The Turtleford, Saskatchewan native joined the Wolverines at the January trade deadline from the Yorkton Terriers and helped bring a veteran presence to a young Wolverines blue line.

According to McDonald, committing to play for the Voyageurs was an easy decision to make with a familiar face at the helm of the program in Lac La Biche.

“Their Head Coach was my coach when I was 18 so he reached out to me and got things going from there a couple of months ago,” McDonald explained.

“I’m very excited to get the chance to continue to play hockey at a higher level and get schooling also.”

A veteran of 112 Junior A regular season games, McDonald suited up in 20 games for the Wolverines where he scored three goals and seven assists. Although he only spent a few months as a Wolverine, it’s something he won’t soon forget.

“It was a pleasure playing for the community of Waywayseecappo. The fans were great and passionate. The coaches and staff were all great to me,” McDonald concluded.

When school starts in the fall, Karstin will be enrolled in the open studies program where he will be taking classes to pursue his career in the RCMP.
