Christmas signs with Wolverines

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines has announced that forward Alex Christmas of the Cape Breton West Islanders of the Nova Scotia U18 Hockey League has signed a letter of intent with the Wolverines for the 2023-24 season.

The 17-year-old from Membertou, Nova Scotia has had 25 points in 17  games this season as the Islanders made it to the playoffs before losing in the quarter-finals.

Christmas also played with the South Shore Lumberjacks of the Maritime Junior Hockey League for 18 games, getting 8 points as a 17 year old.

Alex said his brief time in junior hockey was a learning experience for himself.

“It’s a league full of 20-year-olds, so  it was a very physical league, something that I had to get used too.”

Christmas, who is an indigenous Mi’kmaq, is excited to join the community of Waywayseecappo.

“I heard about the team this year, and know a bit about the community already, and excited to make my way to Manitoba.”

Alex describes himself as a skilled guy that scores goals but will lay some hits as well.
