Captain Ripley joining Augustana Vikings

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are proud to announce that former captain Gerrik Ripley has committed to play for the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

Ripley has played for the Wolverines for the past three seasons and was named captain for the 2020-21 season.

The Fort McMurray, Alberta native will be heading closer to home playing for the Vikings in Camrose, Alberta.

“It’s a fantastic school, and the school’s team is great too,” said Ripley. “But at the end of the day, I just wanted to be closer to home. I have a brand-new niece in the family, and I wanted to be around for her.”

Gerrik says he will be taking business and economics in school.

During his MJHL career, he had 19 goals, and 53 points in his 108 games, all with the Wolverines. Ripley says the whole experience in Waywayseecappo was amazing, and something he will never forget.

“The Wolverines is one of the best run organizations in Canada,” said Ripley. “The players that get to be part of it, and the fans that get to watch this program grow, just enjoy it and feel lucky that you get to experience it.”

Head Coach Taylor Harnett, who has coached Ripley for parts of four seasons, says the Vikings will be getting a great player.

“Gerrik is a true leader on and off the ice,” says Harnett. “The Vikings should be very pleased to be getting such a quality young man. We wish him all the best moving forward. We are confident he will do great things in the future.

The Wolverines would like to congratulate Gerrik Ripley on this next step in his life.
