Bird commits to Trinity Western

Waywayseecappo Wolverines Top Forward for 2021-22, Boston Bird, has committed to play U Sports Hockey with the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley, British Columbia.

Bird played his final season of junior hockey with the Wolverines, finishing with a team-high 64 points (23 goals, 41 assists) in his 49 games.

He also suited up with the OCN Blizzard in 2019-20 and Odessa Jackalopes of the NAHL and Pictou County Crushers of the MJAHL during the shortened COVID season in 2021. In total, the Saskatoon, SK product had 41 goals and 115 points over his Junior A career.

Bird, who will be majoring in Human Kinetics, says he is excited to join the Spartans hockey program.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things about Trinity and their program on and off the ice,” said Bird. “It’s a new U Sports program and I want to be apart of it and experience the building of a new culture there.”

Even though he only suited up for the Wolverines for one year, Boston says it was a great experience.

“I met a lot of life long friends, it was one of the best coaching staffs I’ve had so far in my career and the community support was unbelievable,” says Bird. “I will miss it a ton.”

“Boston is a great person and most importantly a great teammate. These attributes along with his outstanding work ethic have earned him an amazing opportunity,” says Wolverines Head Coach Taylor Harnett. “The Wolverines were truly blessed to have him wear our uniform. He is a great ambassador for our organization and indigenous youth moving forward.”

Bird will be joining former Wolverines goaltender Isaac Labelle with the Spartans program next season. It will be the club’s second full season in the Canada West conference in U Sports.

The Wolverines would like to congratulate Boston Bird on this great accomplishment, and thank him for everything he has done for the organization.
