Wolverines  return from Christmas break lose three

After 16 days off the wolverines returned to action as they travelled to Swan River to take on the stampeders. The first period was a back and forth affair and it looked like both teams were a little sluggish from the long Christmas break.Wayway would get the scoring started early in the first as Cody Koskimaki would get his third goal of the year unassisted. The stamps would answer with two of their own but Ashley Howie would get his 16th and 17th goals of the year to take a 3-2 lead into the second. In the second not much would change. It appeared wayway would hold the 3-2 lead going into the 3rd but with ten seconds to go in the 2nd period  Justin Valentino would tie the game at 3-3. In the third wayway just couldn’t seem to get anything going and swan would score to early goals and coast to the 5-3 victory. With the win the stamps closed to within 4 points of the wolverines. Cory Simons(7-10) would stop 28 of 33 shots for the loss.

On Friday night wayway would travel to Dauphin to take on the first place kings. Wayway would get the first goal of the game as Zaine Walker would get his 5th goal of the year assists to Curtis Veitch. In the 2nd wayway would get a pp and at the 7:07 mark Ashley Howie would get his 18th goal of the year assist to Pierre Landry and Richard Little. The 2-0 lead lead would not last long though as dauphin would capitalize on app of their own to get the score to 2-1 heading into the 3rd. In the 3rd dauphin’s Jesse Sinatynski would get his 2nd goal of the game to tie it at 2-2. Dauphin would continue to pepper wolverines goaltender Cory Simons but he would hold the fort and force OT. In OT Dauphin’s Jesse Sinatynski would complete the hat trick with a 1:32 left in OT to earn the 3-2 win. Cory Simons(7-11) would be solid all night but take the loss stopping 38 of 41 shots and receive the games 2nd star.

Wayway would finish their road trip off on Sunday night as they would travel to neepawa to take on the natives. Wayway would once again get the games first goal on the pp as Brett Pinkerton would get his 18th goal of the year assist to Bobby Janzen and Pierre Landry. Cory Simons (7-12) would once again take the loss for wayway stopping 16 of 19 shots. A very disappointing start to the second half of the season registering only one point on the three game road trip.

In other news Shane Goodrunning would return back to the wolves lineup Sunday night against the natives. Wayway has aslo acquired a 92’ (D)Marty McFadden of Carman MB. From the Fort Frances Lakers of the SIJHL for future considerations.  The wolves losers of five straight have only a one point advantage on the Swan Valley Stampeders for the crucial 3rd place spot in the Sherwood division.Swan Valley has closed the gap on wayway but rattlin off three straight wins. Third is a crucial spot as it looks like the 5th place team Winnipeg Saints hold the crossover spot on swan and wayway as they lead wayway by ten points. So it appears that a wayway swan battle down the stretch will decide the playoff spot in the Sherwood.Wayway next home action is Wed. Jan 11 as they will take on the Winnipeg Saints followed by a home and home with the Swan Valley Stampeders on the 14th and 15th of January.
